Evaluating Preliminary Data Justice Guidance in Real-World Contexts – Advancing Data Justice: Research and Practice (ADJRP)

Context :

As data-driven ecosystems and automated decisions scale globally, grounding technological development in ethics and fairness is paramount. To ensure international data justice guidance moves from abstract policy definitions to actionable local deployment, The Alan Turing Institute embeds its frameworks with regional “Policy Pilot Partners” to test their usability against systemic, operational, and structural realities on the ground.

Project Objectives

• General Objective: Partner with the ADJRP/ATI research and operational teams to critically evaluate, iterate, and refine preliminary data justice toolkits via real-world deployment tests.

• Specific Objectives:

  1. Contextualize regional definitions of data justice and identify pathways for local community activation.

  2. Diagnose organizational, participant, and structural barriers hindering guideline enforcement.

  3. Analyze local legislation and state regulation to determine if they act as positive catalysts or negative blockages for data equity.

Deliverables and Defined Scope of Services

• Coordination Meetings: Maintain ongoing collaboration via project wide syncs involving research leads, operations, CEIMIA, and the executive steering committee.

• Digital Engagement Integration: Interact with active online evaluation modules, completing surveys and reviewing foundational source literature deployed through the Decidim platform.

• Regulatory Context Review: Conduct literature reviews exploring domestic background texts, administrative frameworks, and technological legal landscapes under David Leslie’s instruction.

• Field Consultation Framework:

  • Convene, moderate, and complete exactly one (1) intensive 2-hour multi-stakeholder workshop featuring 25 active participants.

  • Conduct ten (10) comprehensive semi-structured interviews with domain experts.

• Summary Reporting Analytics: Author and deliver a highly analytical 10-to-15-page final summary report consolidating field observations, participant metrics, and targeted operational modifications. Provide all raw primary data backings, including full text transcriptions and verified English translations of all recorded workshop dialogue and interview sessions.
