Access to information is critical for enabling citizens to exercise their voice, to effectively monitor public policies, and hold government to account. Participatory democracy depends absolutely on the availability of information, and is key to set up informed dialogue about decisions which affect their lives. AfroLeadership advocates for access to information in Africa, and is a member of the African Freedom of Information Center (AFIC). Access to public information is key to democracy and governance. There are still many african countries without a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
