AfroLeadership, Open Data and the Right of Access to Information

Like Cameroon, many African countries do not have access to the information Act. There is no specific freedom of information law that requires public bodies to disclose information as well as to respond to requests for information. Civil society initiatives have been carried out to push the government to legislate on this issue, but very little progress has been observed in the last year. AfroLeadership, through is President Charlie Martial NGOUNOU is a member of a commission at the Prime Minister’s office working on open data and the right of access to information. It is an open government plea. We are also a member of the Africa Freedom of information Centre – AFIC whose vision is “An Africa where all citizens can exercise their right of access to information”. Its main mission is to support a pan-African network of actors to advance the right of access to information on the African continent.
