A project of about 72 000 USD and with one year duration (2020-2021), Cameroon Open Participatory Budget is an initiative funded by Embassy of France in Cameroon through the Innovative Projects from Civil Societies and Coalitions of Actors (PISCCA). COPB aims at promoting budget literacy and citizen participation to budget processes. An open budget platform will give the opportunity to citizens in 22 local governments to access budget information, to monitor budget design and implementation in their cities. COPB platform makes budget data available to every citizens in a simple, visual, machine readable format so that to increase data literacy and budget literacy for all the citizens everywhere in Cameroon. COPB is a first stage of an initiative that envisions to address all 374 local governments in Cameroon in years to come after this first phase.
COPB is implemented in partnership with 2 national networks of CSOs in Cameroon. AfroLeadership will train civil society organisations and journalists on budget transparency and citizen participation methodologies, to impart capacities on how to use open data, do budget analysis, to budget investigation and social monitoring, and then tell stories base on budget evidences.
The Association Internationale des Maires Francophones (AIMF), The Cameroon Community Driven Participatory Program of the Ministry of Economy (PNDP), The Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development, The Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) and People Powered have expressed their support for the project.
